This Steelcase office project prompted a new age tech company 'NEXT' that is reaching new heights with their latest expansion. This research and development hub in Seaport Boston is breaking barriers physically and metaphorically. This free flowing office plan breaks away from the outdated cubical factor and encourages unity and collaboration of team members. Merging their individual skills elevates their innovation methods inspiring unity between technology and creativity. NEXT employees are not only a team but also a centralized community of inspirational and intelligent minds that deserve a space that makes them feel comfortable and supported. Designing an office that really brings to life the value the company has for their team by implementing a more comfortable and fluid way of working was the main objective. An individual’s wellbeing is centered within their ability of personal expressiveness, being their eccentric selves in and out of the workplace. Drawing in the plethora of creativity and culture flowing through the streets of Seaport allowed the energy and identity of the city and it's vibrant artist community and cultural institutions to flow right into the leading-edge work space. Through immersive architectural elements that encourage and inspire the urban based company connection. From a station of historic industrial units that capsulate Boston's foundation of brick and beam warehouses and cobblestone streets that once became abandoned, to a fully transformed flourishing cultural fabricated area that not only captivates but encourages and supports its communities arts and individualism. This project exhibits aesthetics, accessibility, equity of rights of employees and the importance of inclusive design practices. The need for co-designed technology implementations, particularly for innovative emerging workplace technologies. Workplaces of the future have made the shift to be transfixing places where every member of the team has space to contribute adequately – because of their unique identities not despite of them. Based on global survey outcomes, five things employees need now are safety, belonging, productivity, comfort, and control. Office spaces are moving from health and safety standards to a holistic approach combining safety and design. This has helped to reduce the spread of disease in ways such as adjusting from single purpose small spaces to larger multi-purpose spaces. This also contributes to the balance of meeting both team and individual needs. Stepping away from the singular focus of attracting talent and towards creating a sense of belonging and shared purpose, making the idea of going into the office a more pleasant and enjoyable experience. This being accomplished by the shift of the office environment from fixed architecture and spaces to more fluid and flexible work areas.
